A cake smash session is the perfect way to celebrate this special milestone and capture your baby's personality, curiosity and pure joy—all while making a wonderfully messy memory.
At BarnDoor Studio, our cake smash sessions are relaxed, playful and designed around your little one. There is no pressure to smile, pose perfectly or perform for the camera. Just bring your birthday baby, their personality and their appetite for cake!
What Happens During a Cake Smash Session?
Your session is about more than just smashing a cake. We like to capture the whole story—from those sweet portraits before the cake arrives to the moment your little one discovers that cake is actually allowed to be played with!

Before the Cake
We begin with some clean portraits of your little one while they're still fresh, happy and cake-free.
The Cake Smash
Then comes the fun! Your baby gets to explore, touch, taste and eventually smash their birthday cake while we capture all the expressions, giggles and messy little moments.
Clean-Up Time
Once the cake has been thoroughly investigated, we'll finish with some adorable post-cake photographs. Depending on your session setup, we may also include a simple clean-up or bath-time style portion. Every baby reacts differently. Some dive straight into the cake, while others aren't quite sure what they're supposed to do with it!
Either way, we photograph it all.
